Spring fatigue – applies to dogs too
Spring fatigue is a subject some people could tell you all about. But it affects by no means only us humans; it also – something many do not know – affects the dog. The weather is responsible for it. More precisely, the change in temperature from cold to warm is the cause, which demands a lot of the whole organism. When the warm spring weather replaces the winter temperatures, this affects the whole body.
The body widens its blood vessels and as a result blood pressure drops
This process brings about the well-known tiredness. The more often the temperatures change, the more frequently the exhaustion shows itself. It is certain that the body's own two hormones serotonin and melatonin are involved. Serotonin is the messenger substance for activating the body and for a good mood. For the hormone to be produced, light is a necessary condition. The longer the body is exposed to natural light, the more serotonin is produced. Melatonin, as the so-called sleep hormone, ensures restful sleep at night. In our expertise we use this knowledge for holistic advice.
Above all, exercise, fresh air and sunshine help against spring fatigue
This effectively boosts the hormone balance. But you must by no means overdo it. In the evening you should allow yourself and the dog enough rest. But first thing in the morning it is out into the fresh air. The morning walk is ideally freshened up caringly with a short interval workout. You walk 200 metres with the dog at a normal walking pace and then put in a sprint. This can be shorter at first and longer later. Perhaps there are also a few natural hurdles along the way that the dog can jump over. A small wall or branches lying across the path are excellent for this.
How you can caringly make your dog even fitter
Provided, of course, that the animal is completely healthy, there are further great exercises. As a good option, you can run slalom with it around trees or woodpiles. Anyone who wishes can also take their dog along on a short break, to places where dogs are warmly welcome. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea in particular are wonderful for running. Wooded areas too are an ideal destination. There are many specialised accommodations that are offered as dog hotels. There you are less occupied with everyday life and can take more time for running and for shared fun with the dog.
