Colostrum is the so-called first milk produced by a female mammal in the mammary glands immediately after the birth of her young. This extremely nutritious first milk serves as the very first food in the lives of the newborn animals and contains a high concentration of all nutrients important for the formation of the young immune system as well as the vital immunoglobulin for the formation of antibodies that protect the young animals from pathogens.
However, not only young animals can benefit from these nutrients, but also adult and especially old dogs, because in addition to strengthening the immune system, it supports muscle maintenance and muscle development as well as the intestinal flora.

In all mammals, the body's defences still need some time after birth to fully develop. For this reason, newborn animals are very susceptible to infectious diseases immediately after giving birth. However, nature has devised a highly effective protection for this until the immune system of the young animals has fully developed and can independently defend itself against the various pathogens - the antibodies in colostrum.

When should colostrum be given to dogs?
In principle, any dog owner can administer colostrum to their pet. If a dog shows reduced immune performance and an associated increased susceptibility to infectious diseases due to illness, age or heavy stress (e.g. pregnancy, dog sports, hunting or rescue dogs etc.), it can very well strengthen the dog's natural defences.

Immunoregulatory micronutrients such as interleukin and peptides are a very important component.
