MSM for dogs
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulphur compound that provides your dog with natural sulphur – an essential building block of joints and connective tissue. It supports the normal function of the musculoskeletal system and is traditionally valued to help maintain mobility – ideal during increased strain, for active dogs and in old age. MSM is often combined with green-lipped mussel or glucosamine.

The sulfur compound methyl-sulfonyl-methane is known under the abbreviation MSM; it is an essential element for life. Sulfur is found in enzymes and in many amino acids, some of which have antioxidant effects and fight free radicals. Furthermore, the MSM is important for both the dogs' connective tissue and the articular cartilage.
The methyl-sulfonyl-methane supports the maintenance of the cartilage mass and promotes optimal flexibility. In addition, MSM has anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing effects, which play a particularly important role in the case of osteoarthritis. If there is an undersupply of sulfur in the dog's body, not only the joints can be affected, negative effects on the immune system have also been found.
How can an undersupply of MSM come about?
The most common cause of an undersupply of the sulfur compound MSM in the dog's body is an unbalanced diet with industrial food. MSM cannot be produced by the dog's body itself and therefore dogs must consume it regularly with their food. Since many ready-made dog foods (industrial food) unfortunately have a low concentration of methylsulfonylmethane, a sulfur deficiency can occur.
However, a dog owner usually only notices an MSM deficiency when their dog shows the first signs indicates a degenerative condition of the joints. For this reason, every dog owner should always ensure that their dog is getting enough of the sulfur compound.
MSM (not only) for the dog joints
Optimally functioning joint cartilage is absolutely essential for joint health in dogs and this can only be guaranteed if the joint cartilage is supplied with all the important joint nutrients. Among these joint nutrients, methylsulfonylmethane is particularly important because the sulfur as a component of the synovial fluid ensures that all other joint nutrients, such as glucosamine, reach the cartilage cells and can develop their effects optimally there.
A fundamental property of sulfur is to make the cell walls permeable so that active fluid exchange can take place between the cartilage cells and the surrounding tissue. Only in this way can the other joint nutrients reach the inside of the dog's cartilage cells in an ideal concentration. MSM also has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, which are particularly effective in osteoarthritis / arthritis.
MSM in cancer
Studies by University Glocal Campu Seoul also prove that taking MSM in cancer cases can slow down the growth of cancer cells , because MSM enriches oxygen in the blood and tissue. Cancer cells feel uncomfortable in an oxygen-rich environment, so the cell division rate of cancer cells can be significantly reduced.
