Lyme disease and immune deficiency in dogs

Golden Retriever

Protection against ticks and support for the dog's defences.

The number of diseases transmissible by ticks is rising drastically from year to year. This is why experts increasingly recommend measures that support the vitality of dogs in at-risk areas. A well-functioning natural defence system is important in order to neutralise the pathogens transmitted by the tick. But what can a dog owner do to support their animal's defences?

How Borrelia are transmitted by the tick

Especially in southern Germany, a great many ticks are contaminated with the pathogens of Lyme borreliosis. The so-called Borrelia enter the dog's body via the saliva of the bloodsuckers, as soon as the tick has bitten into the skin and begins to drink the blood of its host. In many cases the first symptoms of borreliosis appear only months or even years later. Usually the disease shows itself through neurological abnormalities and changes in the musculoskeletal system. As it progresses, serious health hazards such as inflammation of the kidneys or inflammation of the nervous system can also arise.

Treatment and options for prevention

Borreliosis in dogs is usually treated by administering antibiotics. However, if the disease is already far advanced, the medication unfortunately often shows no desirable effect. In such a case, the vets can mainly only concentrate on the best possible care and the general well-being of the animal. The available vaccines against borreliosis also show only limited effectiveness, and many dogs fall ill with this bacterial infectious disease after a tick bite despite a vaccination carried out beforehand.

Supporting vitality and immune function effectively

As already mentioned at the outset, the body's own defences play an important role in dealing with pathogens, provided the defences are working at an ideal level. Therefore, every dog owner in areas at risk of borreliosis is strongly advised to take measures for the nutritional support of immune function. For this, natural Colostrum in a supplementary feed is a very good option, because the powdered first milk contains all the nutrients important for the defences in highly concentrated form. It is not without reason that Colostrum is regarded as a valuable component for supporting vitality.

  • Supports normal immune function when there is a risk of ticks
  • Promotes the body's own defences against bacterial pathogens
  • Ensures a supply of high-quality Colostrum
  • Ideal for dogs in known Lyme disease risk areas
