Dogs suffer from arthritis too - info & tips!

Retriever

Healthy joints for more joy in movement and a high quality of life.

Just like us humans, dogs can develop challenges with their joints at a very young age, which can considerably limit the animals' quality of life. The causes of joint strain in dogs are very complex and can range from genetic factors due to over-breeding to a persistently poor diet. Joint problems mostly go unnoticed in the early stages. Only when the animal shows abnormalities in its movements does the owner notice that there is a problem with the dog's agility.

Genetics and joint strain

Many dog breeds today show clear signs of serious over-breeding, which frequently manifests in misalignments in the musculoskeletal system. Because of such congenital postural defects in dogs, the joint cartilage is at times permanently and very strongly compressed. As a result, the cartilage mass can no longer adequately fulfil its important cushioning function for the animals' joints. Over time, the unbuffered strain leads to an impairment of normal mobility.

Where can joint problems occur in dogs?

In general, strain can arise in any conceivable joint of the dog, but in most cases the hip joints and also the joints of the front and hind legs are affected. Fundamentally, joint strain in the dog, especially at an advanced stage, goes hand in hand with limited mobility, whereby the animal's agility and thus also its quality of life is enormously restricted.

The role of nutrition in joint function

The joint cartilage already mentioned offers the dog's joints highly functional protection against the shocks and friction resulting from movement, which are cushioned by the elastic cartilage mass. However, for this important task the dog's cartilage cells need very specific nutrients, the so-called joint nutrients, which the dog must take in through its diet. If a nutrient deficiency arises in the cartilage mass because of inferior dog food, the affected cartilage gradually recedes and can no longer adequately support the normal function of the joint. The risk of an impairment of mobility rises rapidly.

What can be done

With regard to the genetically determined triggers of joint strain, the dog owner is left with one really effective way to support their dog's normal joint function. They must ensure the preservation of the joint cartilage and safeguard its optimal functionality nutritionally. In this way the joints are supported quite well even where there is a congenital predisposition. If there is increased strain on the joints because of a dietary mistake, then of course the dog food should first and foremost be changed. In addition, the dog owner can consider a supplementary food for dogs that contains all the important joint nutrients.

  • Supports normal joint function where there is a genetic predisposition
  • Promotes the preservation of the cartilage's important cushioning function
  • Ensures the supply of essential joint nutrients
  • Ideal for nutritional support at any age
