The winter holiday with the dog is near
For many dog owners it goes without saying that their loyal friend comes along on the approaching winter holiday. There are numerous destinations on offer that are wonderfully suited to a shared break. Whether on the North Sea coast or, in particular, in the Alpine region – there are destinations with accommodation in which the dog is a welcome guest. Basically, the animal does not care where the journey goes. The main thing is that it may experience many lovely things together with its human. However, I recommend that you plan such a winter holiday carefully.
Hiking together in the snowy countryside
When you travel into the snow with your dog, you can explore the snowy winter landscape together. Most dogs love the snow and enjoy romping about in it. In doing so they often behave like little children. What is more, hiking with the dog is currently very popular. Whether you prefer to be out alone or in a group on shared dog hikes – every day can be an enrichment. I advise you to find out in advance whether such activities are offered at your holiday destination.
However, we should not overdo it. If you would like to go alpine skiing, this is not a suitable holiday for the dog. It would have to spend the whole day in the hotel room. There are indeed pistes on which dogs are allowed, but this is not advisable due to the risk of injury. Hiking or walking with snowshoes, on the other hand, is very varied for the dog. It can follow trails and scent tracks in the snow and dig in loose snow.
- Careful planning of activities in the snowy countryside
- Using special cross-country trails for cross-country skiing with a dog
- Promoting fitness through skijoring with a suitable pulling harness
- Protection through functional dog clothing and paw protection
In more and more regions, cross-country skiing is completely trouble-free for the dog. Many towns have now adapted to cross-country skiers with a dog. For anyone who would like to be sporty and has the right dog for it, skijoring is an option. Here the dog pulls the person by means of a special pulling harness that connects the two. Or you simply let the animal run alongside while sledging, so that afterwards it may pull the sledge back up the hill again. This is a great deal of fun for everyone involved, especially for families with children.
Wellness and relaxation for human and four-legged friend
For those who prefer to be less active, special wellness hotels for human and dog are on offer. Here both sides can be caringly pampered. A quarter of an hour on the underwater treadmill makes the animal pleasantly tired. Afterwards there are often massages for both, which is a special experience. Massages boost local blood circulation and lower blood pressure as well as the pulse. They relax the musculature and the connective tissue and noticeably reduce stress.
So that the coming winter holiday is a success for both sides, a few things should be considered. Besides the travel first-aid kit, with many breeds warming, functional clothing also belongs in the luggage. Especially with short-haired breeds and dogs without an undercoat, dog clothing is not a fashion gimmick but a necessity. It offers protection against wet and cold. In addition, I consider paw protection highly advisable.
Our recommendation for a strong immune system
Especially in the cold season, a stable immune system is what counts. To strengthen your four-legged friend's defences for the holiday, we recommend giving colostrum, which is known as a source of health. This naturally contains a highly concentrated mix of vital substances such as vitamins, minerals, proteins and important antioxidants. For our natural product we use exclusively raw materials from organic farms. The powder can be very easily mixed into the food and supports your dog's vitality throughout the entire journey.
